SIGG Bottles: Eco-Friendly, Kid-Friendly
If you’ve been looking for an alternative to the world of plastic sippy cups and would like your kids to stop slurping through so many disposable juice boxes, then SIGG has a kids drink bottle for you. Kidz SIGGs are durable, spill proof, and leak proof and are coated with a special non-toxic, baked-on inner liner that resists odors and tastes, including fruit acids. Translation: no yucky taste and easy washing out even after you realize its been under the car seat with grape juice in it for a week.
Swiss-made SIGG, produces these bottles from a single piece of aluminum (about the size of a hockey puck) that is extrusion pressed under incredible force to form it into a cylinder. As a result, SIGG bottles are seamless, lightweight and last for years.
One of the most fun things about the SIGG Kidz line are the amazing colors, images and themes that are available. Bright, vibrant colors and cool characters make it easy to find a style for any kid.

Specifications:
Kids Bottles come in 3 sizes - 0.3L (approx. 10 oz), 0.4L (approx. 13.5 oz) and 0.6L (approx. 20 oz). Available is a huge range of colors and themes. Interchangable caps can be replaced and other accessories are available. Recommended for children ages two and up. $15.99 - $18.99.
Testers:
Three year old toddler, over the course of 6 months. Used for bringing lunch to pre-school, in car on road trips and in the living room to avoid spills.
Ease of Use:
Special cap is designed with a cover that pulls off (still attached to bottle) to reveal a traditional water bottle valve which the child can suck the liquid from. The valve is opened and closed by turning the cap rather than pulling open. This is a good feature in that it keeps spills to a minimum but can also be a bit difficult for little hands to figure out at first.
Cleaning:
Beacuse SIGG bottles feature a special inner coating that resists smells, tastes and acid, there are no lingering tastes or smells no matter what has been in it. This makes cleaning much easier. We rinsed the bottles out after each use with hot water (and a little dish detergent from time to time) and the caps were occassionaly put through the dishwasher. You can also take the cap apart for a more thorough cleaning. Note that the bottle itself is not recommended for the dishwasher - it will not hurt the bottle or effect the inner coating, but it does fade the exterior paint finish. For occassional deep cleaning, SIGG makes a special bottle cleaning tablet that does a better job at reaching all parts of the bottle interior (the small neck and opening of the bottle can make it difficult to get inside with regular cleaning tools).
Pros:
LOVE the great colors and styles -you just can’t resist the shiny, eye-catching designs! We also found that the sizes were just about right for different ages. The .3L size for a toddler was small enough to handle easily, yet held enough juice for snack or lunch. Finally, we felt good using something that was better for the environment and not having to worry about the bottle becoming too “funky” after using it over and over.
Cons:
A bit on the pricey side for a kids water bottle. You can justify this when you consider how many times you will use it over and over, but it can seem like a lot at initial purchase. Although we did not experience this, we talked to other parents who commented that their bottles were easily dented. The beauty of a SIGG bottle is that even dented, it will not crack or leak, but the dent will surely make it less attractive. (Another important note - you can not freeze these bottles or fill them and store them in the freezer which will cause them to crack and leak).
